SWIMMING POOL & GARDEN
We are very proud of our pool here at Domaine de Lauroux, and if guests are ever awake early enough when on holiday here, one of us will be seen cleaning the pool and sweeping the terrace each morning and then again in the evening. The pool is 11m x 5m with roman end steps of 3m, perfect for sitting and reading and has a salt-water system. French government regulations specify that that swimming pools completely fenced or fitted with an alarm - we chose a fence with a secure gate.
The design of the pool is such that it is possible to walk all around the edges, with a gentle slope towards a deep section at the far end. We carried out lots of research before buying a pool as we wanted to ensure it would be safe for children and those adults who aren't strong swimmers - we are parents ourselves and know exactly what it is like when a pool is too deep or not child-friendly.
There is a large, tiled terrace on all sides of the pool, there are lots of sun loungers and parasols together with some small tables and chairs. For safety reasons, we insist that children are supervised, no glass must be taken into the pool area (we do provide plastic glasses in the cottage and B&B studio). The pool area is surrounded by grass and fruit trees which can offer some welcome shade, (a hammock is provided) as the pool is in full sun.
The self-catering cottage is situated above the vines and has a garden to the front and side which is primarily gravel with lots of thyme, rosemary and lavender bushes and large tubs of kitchen herbs.
The garden has 2 gates, one at the end of the garden giving access to a gravel area for parking cars, the second at the side of the house so that guests can walk across the orchard to the swimming pool.
Along the left-hand side of the cottage, there is a large terrace with a brick-built chimney housing a BBQ, sink with hot and cold water, overhead lighting and electric sockets. A security light is fitted at the front of the house which is activated by movement. A large table, 8 chairs and a parasol are provided for use by the cottage's guests.
At the bottom of the hill to the left of the cottage is a large, flat prairie of about 4 acres - lots of space for football. Beyond that, are more vines and fields. We do encourage our guests to explore the entireity of the 100 acre Domaine as there is lots to see including wild boar, deer and eagles - it takes a couple of hours to walk around the perimeter!
